Thiruvananthapuram: 244 people have been arrested as part of a statewide hunt on illicit drugs. In the special investigation conducted by the police across the state, 246 cases have been filed against persons involved in the procurement and distribution of drugs. Police conducted checks on 1373 individuals throughout the state in connection with these cases and 81.46 grams of MDMA and 10.352 kilograms of cannabis were seized in various districts.
Kochi city has the highest number of arrests on drugs, in the state. 61 people were arrested from Kochi alone. 45 people were arrested in Alappuzha and 32 from Idukki. 21 people were arrested in Thiruvananthapuram City and 8 in Thiruvananthapuram Rural.
Maximum number of MDMA was seized from Kollam city. 37.41 grams of MDMA was found. 22.85 grams of MDMA was seized from Thiruvananthapuram Rural. 58 cases were registered from Kochi city alone. 44 cases have been registered in Alappuzha, 33 in Idukki, 22 in Thiruvananthapuram City and 6 in Thiruvananthapuram Rural.
On the special instructions of the State Police Chief Dr. Sheikh Darvesh Sahib, the operation D-hunt was launched under the leadership of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) MR Ajith Kumar, head of the State Anti-Narcotics Task Force. According to the instructions of the Zone Inspectors general (IGs) and Range Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), the inspection was conducted at various places under the leadership of the district police chiefs. State Police Chief Dr. Sheikh Darvesh Sahib said that the investigation will continue to find those who collect and distribute drugs.
