Thiruvananthapuram: A serious allegation has surfaced implicating the personal staff of Health Minister Veena George in an alleged bribery. The complaint, filed by Haridasan, a resident of Malappuram, alleges that Akhil Mathew, one of the minister’s personal staff, and Akhil Sajeev, acting as a mediator, demanded a sum of Rs. 5 lakhs in exchange for the appointment of a Homeo Medical Officer.
In his formal complaint, Haridasan has detailed how a sum of Rs. 5 lakhs was demanded from him in return for securing his son’s wife a coveted position. According to Haridasan, Akhil Sajeev, posing as the Pathanamthitta CITU office secretary and a prominent CPM figure, approached him with assurances of securing the job. He left Haridasan with the impression that the appointment would only materialise if the demanded bribe was paid. On March 24, Haridasan transferred an initial payment of Rs. 25,000 to Akhil Sajeev’s bank account.
Subsequently, Haridasan claims to have visited the minister’s office, where he met with a member of the personal staff and handed over an additional sum of one lakh rupees. This exchange allegedly occurred under the promise of a swift issuance of the appointment order. Haridasan’s complaint further alleges that both accused individuals collectively extorted Rs. 1,75,000 from him.
As days passed without any sign of the promised appointment order, Haridasan made attempts to reach out to Akhil Mathew and Akhil Sajeev, but these efforts proved futile. Additionally, Haridasan discovered through a response to a Right to Information (RTI) request that another individual had been appointed to the position.
In light of these grave allegations, the complainant is calling for a thorough investigation into the fraudulent activities allegedly centred around the minister’s office.
