Thiruvananthapuram: BJP State President, K Surendran, has come out against the Health Minister, Veena George, for threatening the complainant, Haridas, in the money-for-job scam, by using the minister’s authority. He also said that the Minister is supporting her personal staff member, who is involved in the scam.
Surendran said that by registering a case against the complainant, the minister is trying to save her personal staff member, Akhil Mathew.
The BJP leader said that Haridas, who was duped by the Minister’s personal staff, had filed an online complaint to the Minister. Haridas had also submitted his complaint directly to the Minister. However, no action was taken.
Surendran remarked that when the issue had gone public, the Minister said that she had spoken with her staff member, Akhil Mathew, and remarked that he has not done anything wrong.
K Surendran said that the Minister’s argument is childish. When such a complaint is received, it is the responsibility of the Minister to look into it and bring out the truth. Instead, she supported her staff member without looking into the facts. Veena George’s response is that the allegation is part of a conspiracy.
The BJP leader pointed out that Veena George is saying that the police will investigate the complaint filed by her staff member, Akhil Mathew. This is tantamount to threatening the complainant using her authority as a minister.
Surendran continued that it must be suspected if the money-for-job scam was done with the knowledge of the minister. Kerala is filled with corruption and bribery that even the CPI too had to admit to the present conditions.
The money-for-job controversy erupted after a Malappuram resident, Haridas, told the media that he had paid money to Veena George’s personal staff member, Akhil Mathew, and to a CITU leader to secure a job of medical officer in the Homeo department under Ayush Mission for her daughter-in-law. The scammers told Haridas that his daughter-in-law would be appointed to a temporary post and will be made permanent in the future. They also demanded Rs.5 lakhs for the temporary appointment and Rs.10 lakhs after the job is made permanent.
However, after paying the money, Haridas’ daughter-in-law did not get the appointment order as promised. Haridas had raised the issue with the Health Minister but no further actions were taken. This prompted him to speak to the media about the money-for-job scam.
