Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is facing a heavy rain fall as two low-pressure systems have formed simultaneously in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. This has prompted authorities to issue alerts across the state, with a yellow alert in 10 districts from Alappuzha to Kasaragod and an orange alert in four other districts.
Residents in hilly and coastal areas have been urged to exercise caution as the intense weather system is expected to bring heavy rainfall over the next three days.
Fishermen have been prohibited from venturing into the sea due to the anticipated strong winds along the coast. The authorities are taking preemptive measures to ensure the safety of lives and property in the face of these challenging weather conditions. Despite the ongoing downpours, the overall rainfall for the season is reportedly 36% less than in previous years.
In response to the evolving situation, quarrying and mining activities in Thiruvananthapuram district have been halted, except for essential services catering to hilly and coastal regions. Thiruvananthapuram District Collector Geromic Georgehas confirmed that the ban will persist until further notice. The India Meteorological Department has not only predicted very heavy rainfall but also warned of possible thunderstorms and lightning until October 1.
