Thiruvananthapuram: A group of depositors, who deposited money in a Cooperative Society, surrounded the house of former Minister and Congress leader, VS Sivakumar in protest. The protesters gathered around his house at Sasthamangalam in Thiruvananthapuram. They said that the president of the society, M Rajendran, had withdrawn all the money. They also blamed VS Sivakumar and said that they had deposited their money in the society under his responsibility.
The Unemployed Social Welfare Co-operative Society had branches at Killipalam, Vellayani, and Nemom. The accusation is that those who had deposited in these branches have lost their money. The protesters are saying that a total of Rs.13 crores needs to be repaid to more than 300 depositors.
The protesters are also saying that VS Sivakumar had sent his benami, Ashokan, a resident of Karakkulam, to the depositors to collect the money for depositing it in the society. However, the Congress leader, Sivakumar, has washed his hands off from these accusations and said that he has no connection with any of this.
The President of the Cooperative Society, Rajendran, was the Personal Assistant of VS Sivakumar. All dealings are done with the knowledge of both the persons, said some depositors. They also allege that Rajendran is the benami of Sivakumar and that land is being bought in many places under Rajendran’s name.
One depositor said that he lost Rs.5 lakhs, which he had deposited at the Vellayani branch of the Cooperative Society.
