THRISSUR: While attending the ‘Cooperative Protection March’ (Sahakari Samrakshana Padayatra) in Karuvannur, actor and former MP Suresh Gopi stated that today’s protest march is just a sign. He added that the ‘Cooperative Protection March’ will soon extend to Kandala, Malappuram, and Mavelikkara, where all cooperative bank funds have been looted.
The march will commence after paying tribute to the victims who committed suicide due to the Karuvannur bank scam. Suresh Gopi expressed his commitment to seeking justice for those who were financially cheated at the Karuvannur cooperative bank.
During the march (Padayathra), he emphasized that people who have been financially cheated by unscrupulous individuals are cooperating and participating in the Padayathra, making it a true cooperative action.
Suresh Gopi pointed out that the problem with cooperative banks in Kerala began with demonetization. At that time, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan met with then Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to address the issues in the cooperative banking sector. Suresh Gopi mentioned that he was an MP at the time and was in that office.
The ‘Cooperative Protection March’ was inaugurated this afternoon by BJP Kerala state president K. Surendran. During the inauguration, K. Surendran stated that the scams in the cooperative banks in the state were not uncovered by the crime branch, police, ED, or any other media, but by the poor CPI(M) members who were the victims.
It was only later that the crime branch identified the criminals involved in the scam. Surendran pointed out that other agencies intervened when the state government attempted to limit the case to some party members, revealing the involvement of top-level leaders of the party.
Surendran lamented that five lives would not have been lost in Karuvannur if the cooperative banks of Kerala had followed the central government’s regulations. The RBI’s proposal was to link cooperative banks from all states to a unified core banking system software, but the Kerala government opposed it.
Surendran also called for an investigation into AC Moideen’s involvement in the scam.
