THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Actor and former MP Suresh Gopi stated that the Karuvannur protest is based on humanitarian grounds and has no political agenda. Yesterday, Suresh Gopi led the ‘Cooperative Protection March’ (Sahakari Samrakshana Padayatra) in Karuvannur as a protest against the Karuvannur bank scam. He urged the media not to misinform the public regarding the Karuvannur bank scam and the protest.
Suresh Gopi also refuted the CPI(M)’s allegations that ED raids were being conducted to enable him to contest in Thrissur. Suresh Gopi emphasized that this is not his first involvement in the issue, and he said that he will continue his protest until pursuing the justice for the victims of at the Karuvannur Cooperative bank scam.
Suresh Gopi pointed out that he had visited the victims in Karuvannur a year ago, but some media outlets seem to have forgotten this fact, leading to misrepresentation of the CPI(M)’s propaganda. Suresh Gopi pointed out that he had also visited the victims last September and participated in a hunger strike in Mavelikkara against cooperative bank scams the previous month.
Protest marches were organized in Kottiyam and Kottiyoor. Some CPI(M) workers approached to Suresh Gopi for his intervention and support in protesting against the Kannur Cooperative Bank scam. He mentioned that he has been involved in addressing various scams in Kerala and urged the media to uphold ethical reporting instead of propagating the CPI(M) party’s agenda.
Suresh Gopi further stated that the Central government would intervene in the issue and find a solution soon. He mentioned a previous interaction between Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley regarding issues in the cooperative banking sector. Arun Jaitley had stressed the importance of implementing unified core banking software, but Pinarayi did not follow the Central government’s opinion.
Suresh Gopi responded after some media attempts to politicize his participation in the ‘Cooperative Protection March’ (Sahakari Samrakshana Padayatra) in Karuvannur.
