Thrissur: ED has filed a complaint against the transfer of the accused in the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank fraud case to the same jail. The ED had asked that the accused should not be sent to the same jail. ED’s complaint is that when they are together in the same jail, they will discuss matters related to the case with each other and there will be consultations between the accused to affect the investigation.
But without informing the court and ED, all the four accused were sent to the same jail. At present, the four accused are in the district jail. Accused P. Satish Kumar, P.R. Aravindakshan, P.P. Kiran, C.K. Jills are kept together in Ernakulam District Jail. After the ED brought the matter to the court’s attention, the Kalur court sought an explanation from the sub-jail superintendent.
However, the jail authorities explained that the accused were shifted to the district jail on the instructions of the jail DIG. The officials said that there are sharp differences of opinion between the accused. Keeping this in mind, the accused have been kept in different cells in the district jail.
Meanwhile, the remand period of P. Satish Kumar, P.P. Kiran’s custody has been extended till the 17th of this month. Along with this, more people are being interrogated in the case. Former SP KM Antony, former DySP Famous Varghese, who was earlier questioned and released, Anil Kumar, a real estate dealer who cheated Rs 18 crore from the bank, and Sreejith, brother of P Satish Kumar, were questioned in the ED office today. More people have been summoned for questioning in the coming days.
