THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram division has initiated steps to increase the speed of the Thiruvananthapuram-Shoranur railway route.
Railway department authorities have stated that the department aims to raise the speed from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam via Kottayam and Alappuzha to 130 km/h. A budget of Rs 381 crores has been allocated for enhancing the speed of the Thiruvananthapuram-Shoranur route from 110 km/h.
In the initial phase, 86 small curves have been identified for construction, and a loop line will be arranged without the need for land acquisition. Additionally, 22 curves have been identified on the Thiruvananthapuram-Kayamkulam route.
The Palakkad Division had previously invited contracts for renovating the small curves on the Mangaluru-Shoranur route, aiming to increase the speed to 110 km/h.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that Indian Railways plans to increase the speed in Kerala initially to 110 km/h, and later to 130 km/h. This development means that travel between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod by train will take approximately 6 hours.
As part of the first phase of this announcement, railways have commenced the renovation of curves and the removal of bends.
