THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reports have emerged that Minister V. Sivankutty has consistently interfered in the appointment of Surya Heman as Publicity Assistant at the Kerala Institute of Labour and Employment (KILE), Thiruvananthapuram.
On January 4, 2021, Surya Heman initially joined KILE office in Thiruvananthapuram as a daily wage employee. After one year, Surya Heman’s status was changed to a contract basis appointment.
However, just two and a half months later, KILE’s Executive Director wrote to the Labour Department, seeking validation for this appointment. The Labour Department refused, stating that no action could be taken without prior government permission.
Following Minister Sivankutty’s intervention, the application was forwarded to the finance department. Initially, the finance department opposed it but later validated the appointment at the minister’s insistence.
The finance department emphasized that temporary employment appointments should go through the Employment Exchange. Surya Heman’s appointment was validated with instructions not to repeat this process. Surya Heman was appointed as a Publicity Assistant with a pay scale of Rs. 29,535. However, controversy surrounds the appointment as KILE’s chairman clarified that it is not permanent and is only on a contract basis.
There have been several complaints against the CPI(M) ruling government regarding their favoritism and nepotism in appointments and other government services.
