KOZHIKODE: A group, including top officials, has been arrested for smuggling gold through Calicut International Airport, Karipur. Both a CISF Assistant Commandant and a Customs Officer were arrested in connection with the smuggling case.
Reports indicate that the gold smuggling was done with the assistance of CISF Assistant Commandant Naveen. Police found out that the accused had engaged in gold smuggling over 60 times.
Additionally, the police have gathered information regarding other customs officers associated with Naveen in gold smuggling activities. They obtained this confidential information from airport ‘Baggage Handler’ employees.
Furthermore, the police recovered a file containing the duty schedules of customs officials at the airport from the smugglers, suggesting the involvement of customs officials in the illegal activities.
Malappuram SP S. Sujith Das is leading the investigation into the gold smuggling case, and new developments continue to emerge.
The investigation team has stated that the group was smuggling gold on behalf of Rafeeq, a resident of Koduvalli, Kozhikode.
