Thiruvananthapuram: KP Basit, a former AISF leader suspected of being the central figure behind the job fraud accusations involving the Health Minister’s office, is scheduled for questioning on Wednesday. Basit was apprehended by the police on Tuesday following allegations made by Haridasan, who claimed to have been involved in bribery incidents related to the personal staff of Health Minister Veena George. Reports indicate that the police will conduct interrogations with Rahees, another individual currently in custody, along with Haridasan and Basit on Wednesday.
Basit, who was detained in Manjeri, has been transported to Thiruvananthapuram for questioning. The authorities suspect that Basit may also have been involved in illicit financial transactions with Haridasan. Simultaneously, the investigative team is preparing to document Haridasan’s confidential statement before a magistrate. As per reports, Haridasan has identified Basit as the principal instigator behind the counterfeit job fraud case.
The alleged fraudulent activity, brought to light by Haridasan, a resident of Malappuram district, sparked a significant political controversy within the state. On Tuesday, the police stated that, according to Haridasan’s statement, he had been threatened by those involved in the case into making false allegations. An FIR was registered under IPC Sections 419 and 420 (pertaining to cheating) based on Mathew’s complaint. Haridasan alleged that a member of the Health Minister’s personal staff had accepted a bribe of Rs. 1 lakh in exchange for securing a government medical officer position for his daughter-in-law.
