THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala police have registered a case against BJP leader and actor Suresh Gopi for leading the ‘Cooperative Protection March’ (Sahakari Samrakshana Padayatra) in Karuvannur as a protest against the Karuvannur cooperative bank scam.
On October 2nd, the BJP in Kerala conducted a protest march against the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank scam and the involvement of the CPI(M). The march was led by Suresh Gopi and inaugurated by BJP State President K Surendran.
A case was registered against the participants. However, shortly after the case was registered, people from various corners criticised the Kerala government. Some critics argue that by registering a case against the actor and social worker Suresh Gopi, the Pinarayi government is exposing its cheap politics and expressing political vengeance.
Meanwhile, the Kerala state BJP leadership made it clear that the BJP would not back down from protesting against the Karuvannur scam until justice is delivered to the poor depositors. The BJP also stated that its members would not be deterred even if Pinarayi attempts to incite fear by filing cases. Frightened by the BJP’s ‘Cooperative Protection March’ (Sahakari Samrakshana Padayatra), the Kerala government registered a case against 500 people, including Suresh Gopi.
According to reports, on October 2nd, the BJP conducted a protest march against the Karuvannur Cooperative bank scam and the involvement of the CPI(M). Nearly ten thousand people attended the march, which began in front of the Karuvannur Cooperative bank. The march commenced after paying tribute to the victims who committed suicide due to the Karuvannur bank scam.
CPI(M) leaders were alarmed after witnessing the public participation in the BJP’s 18 km protest march by walk against the scam involving CPI(M) leaders.
Earlier, the Karuvannur scam had tarnished the image of the CPI(M), and the ‘Cooperative Protection March’ again intensified their fears.
In this situation, the Thrissur police and Irinjalakuda police have registered a case against Suresh Gopi and approximately 500 people, including BJP leaders, for allegedly causing traffic disruptions.
However, the party has clarified that the march was conducted with prior permission, and traffic control had been arranged by the police in advance. Therefore, the new case is seen as a form of political revenge, as confirmed by BJP leadership.
BJP Thrissur district president KK Anish Kumar stated that they would face the case, and if arrested, they would go to jail but would not retreat from their protests against the scams. The BJP affirmed its commitment to standing with the poor victims.
