THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Today, the century-old legacy procession of idols, as part of the Navaratri festival, commenced its journey from Padmanabhapuram Palace in Thuckalay, Kanyakumari district, destined for Thiruvananthapuram.
As part of the ritual marking the beginning of the procession, the ceremonial sword was handed over to the Central and Kerala-Tamil Nadu representative ministers at the palace.


Central Minister V. Muraleedharan, Kerala State Devaswom Board Minister K. Radhakrishnan, former Central Minister Pon. Radhakrishan, Tamil Nadu State Minister Mano Thangaraj, Devaswom Board President Annathagopan, M. Vincent MLA, and other dignitaries attended the ceremony held at the Palace and the Temple.
The Munnoottinanga idol from Sthanumalayan Temple in Suchindram has arrived Yesterday evening at the Neelakanta Swamy Temple, Padmanabhapuram . According to tradition, the Munnoottinanga idol serves as the escort for the Saraswathi Devi idol, acting as a pilot vehicle. Following the traditional ceremonies, the Navaratri procession commenced.
Today, the grand procession is scheduled to arrive at Kuzhithura Tri Moorthy Temple, and tomorrow an official welcome reception ceremony will be organized by the Government of Kerala at Kaliyikavila (Kerala-Tamil Nadu border) as an honor.
On the evening of October 14th, the grand procession is set to reach Thiruvananthapuram. The idol of Saraswathi Devi will be worshipped on the morning of the 15th at the Navaratri Mandapam in Padmatheerthakkara.
Approximately 500 police personnel have been deployed under the leadership of the Kanyakumari and Thiruvananthapuram district police chiefs to honor the royal procession.
