THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KK Shailaja, a prominent CPI(M) leader, has retracted her statement on Facebook in which she referred to Hamas as terrorists. Shailaja’s decision to revoke her statement came after CPI(M) leaders, including K. T. Jaleel, reacted to her post.
Although Shailaja’s original post appeared to offer a balanced perspective on the Israel-Palestinian conflict, it faced cyberattacks from several quarters. Following these attacks, the term ‘Hamas terrorists’ was edited, and only ‘Hamas’ was retained on her Facebook post.
There have been allegations that CPI(M) leaders exerted pressure on Shailaja to remove the word ‘terrorism’ as part of a vote-bank strategy.
