Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in the state today, with continuous downpours observed in various districts, notably Thiruvananthapuram since last night. A yellow alert has been issued for nine districts: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad.
The heavy rainfall is attributed to a cyclonic vortex over southern Tamil Nadu and the potential development of low pressure in the Arabian Sea. According to the IMD, Kerala can expect rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, heavy downpours at isolated locations from October 13 to October 17, along with wind speeds ranging from 30-40 kmph over the next five days. In anticipation of the heavy rains, alerts have been issued, including for hilly regions.
