KOLLAM: A clash occurred among Congress party members in Karunagappally, Kollam district. The altercation and clash took place yesterday during a Padhayathra (march) conducted by the United Democratic Front (UDF).
Congress constituency padayatras are currently underway throughout the state. As part of this initiative, the UDF organised the march under the leadership of the Karunagapally Town Constituent Committee.
The clash among Congress leaders stemmed from the reorganization of the constituency committees. Meanwhile, caste references were made between the Congress leaders, exacerbating the situation.
Several disputes have arisen among committee presidents at various locations in Kollam district. Out of the 136 constituency presidents in Kollam district, 133 have already been announced.
Following this, members of both the ‘A group’ and ‘I group’ in the district lodged complaints with the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). The complaints pointed out that the reorganization of the constituency committee presidents was unilateral and biased. The complaint also accuses KC Venugopal and Kodikunnil Suresh of unilaterally selecting candidates and showing favoritism and nepotism in the selection process.
In this situation, Congress members clashed during the march. Congress members left the march midway, causing it to come to a halt.
