Ernakulam: The High Court has quashed the government’s show cause notice against the former Vice-Chancellor of Kerala Technical University, Ciza Thomas. This verdict is based on the petition filed by Ciza Thomas, who contended that the government’s retaliatory actions were adversely affecting her service. The High Court’s Division Bench has dismissed the government’s show cause notice and any subsequent proceedings, effectively overruling the Administrative Tribunal’s earlier order.
The government’s contentious stance dates back to Governor Arif Mohammed Khan’s refusal to endorse the candidates proposed by the government and instead appointing Ciza Thomas as Vice-Chancellor. The government contends that it holds the right to recommend the Vice-Chancellor, whereas Ciza Thomas was appointed by the governor of his own free will. Furthermore, the government had argued in its petition that Ciza lacked the requisite qualifications for the role of Kerala Technical University VC.
In response to these allegations,Ciza sought recourse in the Administrative Tribunal, which ordered the government to continue with the proceedings. Subsequently, Ciza filed a petition in the High Court. Ciza Thomas currently holds the position of Senior Joint Director in the Department of Technical Education, and her temporary appointment as VC, endorsed by the Chancellor, has been deemed legally valid by the court.
