THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning, predicting the possibility of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in Kerala and Tamil Nadu for the next five days.
A yellow alert has been declared for several districts in Kerala for today and tomorrow. The districts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Palakkad have been placed under a yellow alert. Heavy rains are expected in central and southern Kerala, as well as hilly areas, in the coming days.
Additionally, there is a possibility for high tides and storm surges along the Kerala-South Tamil Nadu coasts. Fishermen and coastal residents are urged to exercise caution in this situation.
Meanwhile, in the Arabian Sea, Cyclone ‘Tej’ is developing into a ‘cyclonic storm’ today and is forecasted to escalate into a ‘severe cyclonic storm’ by Sunday evening, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). On Friday, the IMD announced that a low-pressure area over the southeast and southwest Arabian Sea had developed into a depression.
The IMD has also noted that the low-pressure system currently in the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into an extreme low-pressure system by Monday and move toward the West Bengal-Bangladesh coast.
