Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall across the state today, prompting a yellow alert in 10 districts. The districts placed on yellow alert are Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode. IMD predicts that isolated areas may experience significant rainfall, with precipitation ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm over the next 24 hours.
Cyclone Hamun is expected to form in the Bay of Bengal today and track towards the Bangladesh coast by Wednesday. This cyclone’s development is anticipated to bring heavy rainfall to the state over the next five days. Additionally, the IMD has issued a warning regarding the possibility of high tides along the Kerala coast.
Tonight, there is a possibility of high tides and rough sea conditions along the Kerala coast. According to the IMD, there is a possibility of waves reaching heights of 1.0 to 3.0 metres until 11:30 p.m. and 1.2 to 3.0 metres along the Tamil Nadu coast. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to consider relocation as the rough sea conditions are expected to intensify.
