Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has officially confirmed the presence of the Nipah virus in bat samples collected from the regions of Batheri and Mananthavady in Wayanad district. Health Minister Veena George made this announcement, indicating that the same strain of the virus observed in previous years has been detected once again this year.
The Health Minister underscored that the virus has not exhibited any genetic mutations, a reassuring observation communicated by the ICMR. The confirmation of Nipah virus in bats within Wayanad followed extensive investigations in the region, culminating in this definitive finding.
Officials have stressed that there is no immediate cause for alarm in the area, but they encourage public vigilance. The Health Minister also disclosed plans to provide essential training to all healthcare workers to ensure that appropriate precautions are taken when dealing with individuals with severe respiratory diseases.
