Thiruvananthapuram: Today, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, and Idukki districts are under a yellow alert, signalling the possibility of heavy rainfall.
The yellow alert extends to eight districts in the state tomorrow. This includes Kollam to Idukki and Kozhikode to Wayanad districts. The forecast predicts 51 mm to 75 mm of rainfall, and the India Meteorological Department has issued a warning for potential thunderstorms and lightning.
These weather conditions are influenced by a cyclonic circulation over South Tamil Nadu and a cyclonic trough in the southwest Bay of Bengal. These factors are expected to intensify rainfall in the region.
The India Meteorological Department has further cautioned that rain is expected to persist throughout Sunday and Monday. Recent rainfall in the Ernakulam-Angamali market area has already caused flooding, with heavy rains starting around 5 p.m. and strong winds also affecting these regions.
