Independent candidate attacked by CPI(M) workers says police trying to protect higher ups in the communist party

Kozhikode: The only mistake that C.O.T. Naseer did was to stand for election against CPI(M) strongman P. Jayarajan at Vadakara constituency. A few days ago he was attacked by three communist goons and sustained injuries to his head, hands, and stomach. Fortunately, he escaped with his life and is recovering in a hospital.

This is the third attack against Naseer, a former local leader of CPI(M) and Municipality councilor, had quit the party in 2015 on account of differences with them. He decided to stand as independent candidate against P. Jayarajan, the undisputed leader of the Kannur lobby of the CPI(M), at Vadakara. His candidature had irked the communist leadership of Kannur and he has been a target ever since.

Interestingly, leaders of CPI(M) visited Naseer in hospital, including P. Jayarajan. The communist leaders quickly distanced themselves from the attack, a usual tactic of the party when such crimes are done. They have said that the party has no role in the attack.

P. Jayarajan has also announced that a party inquiry will be done to probe the involvement of the party in the attack.

However, Naseer has confirmed that he was attacked by the communists and had the support of the top leadership of CPI(M). He said that a conspiracy was hatched in Thalasherry to eliminate him. The former communist leader also said that he did not believe in party investigations and that the police must probe in the right manner to book those behind the conspiracy.

Naseer also accused the police for not conducting the investigation properly. He said that the police was trying to limit the investigation to the three communist workers who attacked him. He said a deeper investigation will reveal those behind the attack.

Meanwhile, all the other political parties have condemned the communist attack. The communist party has always resorted to gruesome attack to silence any opposition to the party. Many activists of RSS-BJP and also Congress have been killed by the Communist party.
