Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister of Kerala V. Sivankutty has written a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan requesting that the name ‘Bharat’ should not be incorporated in the textbooks. The minister sent this letter via email, asking them to take action to prevent the change of the name ‘India’ to ‘Bharat’ and to cancel the decision.
Sivankutty said, “The country’s identity is a unique combination of its history, culture, and diversity. The name ‘India’ is an important part of that identity. Article One recognizes the nation as both ‘India’ and ‘Bharat.’ Changing the name ‘India’ could lead to confusion and disrupt educational consistency. The current stance of NCERT appears to favor specific ideologies exclusively. It is essential to scrutinize such recommendations to ensure that they do not follow any political or ideological agenda.”
In the letter, V. Shivankutty has requested that steps be taken to intervene and cancel the proposal of the NCERT panel to replace the word ‘India’ with ‘Bharat’ in the textbooks.
