Kochi: The state health department reported that 52 individuals were injured in a tiffin bomb explosion in Kalamassery. Among the victims, a 12-year-old girl is facing a critical situation with severe burns covering 90% of her body. A woman lost her life in the blast, and her body was charred beyond recognition.
Among those receiving treatment for burns, 18 are currently in the intensive care unit (ICU), while another 10 are in the ICU at Kalamassery Medical College, with six of them in a critical condition. Health Minister Veena George has assured that every possible medical treatment will be extended to all those injured.
Following the explosion, police have intensified their investigative efforts across the state. Extensive inspections are being conducted at railway stations, shopping centers, and popular tourist destinations with the assistance of a trained dog squad. The State Director General of Police (DGP) confirmed that there were two separate explosions, and preliminary investigations indicate the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to trigger these blasts. Authorities have collected CCTV footage from the convention center, and a National Investigation Agency (NIA) team has arrived in Kalamassery to conduct an in-depth inquiry into the incident.
