THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The employees of the Malabar Devaswom Board have voiced their criticism against the Kerala state government. The board employees have come forward with complaints of discrimination in terms of service and wages by the state government.
As part of their protest against this alleged discrimination, the employees have decided to observe a Black Day on November 1, coinciding with Kerala’s official celebration of Kerala Piravi, also known as Kerala Day.
The Malabar Devaswom Board was established with the intervention of the Kerala High Court, yet it continues to provide wages to its employees based on a structure dating back to 1956. Despite 67 years of Kerala’s existence, the situation remains unchanged.
Compared to other Devaswom Boards, the condition of the Malabar Devaswom Board, particularly concerning staff appointments and wages, is lamentable. Employees have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the government’s failure to implement reforms announced 14 years ago.
For over six months, temple employees have been on strike at the Devaswom Board headquarters under the leadership of the joint strike committee. Regrettably, their concerns seem to have fallen on deaf ears within the Kerala state government.
The employees have further announced their intent to protest by hoisting black flags on November 1, 2023, Kerala Day, at both the Malabar Devaswom Board headquarters and the Assistant Commissioner’s office.
