Ernakulam: It is hinted that Dominic Martin, the accused in the Kalamasery bomb blast that killed three people, learned about bomb making from abroad. It is reported that the police have received conclusive evidence to confirm this. The police indicate that the exile life of the accused, who worked in the construction sector in Dubai for 18 years, is also very mysterious. Sources said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) would extend the probe to Dubai as Dominic reportedly hatched the conspiracy to attack Jehovah’s Witnesses while working as a foreman in the UAE.
Though the accused confessed that he had committed the crime alone, investigative teams like NIA, NSG, Intelligence Bureau and Kerala Police are looking into whether the accused received any outside help in making the bomb. The investigation team suspects that there could be more than one person behind the attack. The decision of the investigation team is to question those close to Dominic. Police have also checked his social media accounts.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Team in charge of the Kalamassery blasts case took the accused Dominic Martin to his ancestral home to collect evidence. In his statement to police, Dominic claimed that he made the bomb on the terrace of this house.
A detailed statement will be taken from his relatives, friends and those associated with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Meanwhile, Dominic’s mobile phone will be examined by the court today. He himself had broadcast the footage of the bomb blast on his mobile phone.
Investigations have revealed that Dominic purchased 50 light explosives from Tripunithura for using them in the blast. He had bought petrol to ignite the fire when the bomb exploded. The bill for the purchase of eight litres of petrol was found in Dominic ‘s possession. Dominic told the investigating team that he had obtained petrol on seven separate occasions. The reason for the decrease in the intensity of the attack was that additional explosions did not take place as planned by the accused.
Dominic’s arrest was officially recorded by the police at 7 pm on Monday. In addition to charging him under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for murder and Section 3 of the Explosive Substances Act, the accused has also been implicated under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The blasts occurred during a prayer meeting of Jehovah’s Witnesses at an international convention center in Kalamassery on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuring over 50. When the police and National Investigation Agency (NIA) initiated an investigation, Dominic surrendered before Kodakara police in Thrissur claiming responsibility for the attack.
