Thiruvananthapura: Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, refuses to accept that Sabarimala issue had led to the drubbing of his party in the state. He said that he and his party enjoys the support of the people and says that there was no question of his resignation.
His statements come after the CPI(M) Secretariat said that Sabarimala had affected the prospects of the party in the elections. There was a strong anti-CPI(M) wave in the state with communist workers from the Hindu community feeling betrayed by the party when it came to the holy shrine.
Pinarayi Vijayan also said that the every party committee, including the State Committee, will scrutinize the utter defeat of the party. He, however, added that this is not a verdict against his government and said that he still enjoys the support of the people.
Meanwhile, the opposition party leader has called upon the Chief Minister to resign because he has lost the support of the people. He asked Pinarayi to take moral responsibility of the party’s defeat.
Opposition and the public has demanded that the Chief Minister change his attitude and become less arrogant while dealing with individuals and issues. However, the Chief Minister retorted that his attitude was his personality and that he do not intend to change his behaviour.
