Kozhikode: The CPI(M), which has been eyeing the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) for quite some time, has invited the latter for a Palestine solidarity rally. Reports say that the Muslim League State General Secretary, PMA Salam, has confirmed the invitation. However, the Muslim League leader said that the final decision will be made after discussions by the party leadership.
Reports said that Muslim League leader and MP, ET Mohammed Basheer, had said that he would participate in the rally if CPI(M) invites Muslim League.
A few months back the CPI(M) had invited the Muslim League to participate in a rally organized against the Uniform Civil Code. As Muslim League is part of the Congress-led United Democratic Front, the League leaders had decided against participating in it.
However, ET Mohammed Basheer told that the circumstances during the anti-UCC rally were different and that this is the time that everyone should stand united.
The CPI(M) has been trying to woo the Muslim League for quite some time now. The communist party believes that the entry of IUML into the Left Democratic Front will raise its prospects of winning a third term in the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
