Idukki: In response to heavy rains, three shutters of the Idukki Ponmudi Dam were opened by 10 cm. The decision to open the dam shutters was prompted when the water level exceeded the critical red alert level of 706.50 meters.
Heavy rainfall in the Ponmudi region has led to a continuous increase in water levels in the dam, with the gauge reaching 707.30 metres, prompting the District Collector to grant permission to open the shutters. Residents living near the Panniyar River have been advised to exercise caution as a result of this action.
The India meteorological department has also issued warnings of the possibility of heavy rainfall in Idukki district, leading to the announcement of an orange alert, considering these three shutters were opened as a precaution.
