PATHANAMTHITTA: The Kerala government has not provided parking facilities for Sabarimala pilgrims in Pampa, even during this pilgrimage season. It was decided in a ministerial meeting that parking would not be allowed in Pampa.
Previously, Pampa used to offer parking facilities for approximately 5000 vehicles.
However, parking was prohibited after one side of the hilltop parking lot collapsed during the 2018 flood. Despite earlier promises by the government to address the parking issue, the recent ministerial meeting confirmed that no parking facility would be arranged this year either.
During the same meeting, Kerala State Transport Minister Antony Raju called for the provision of parking facilities for KSRTC at the hilltop parking ground.
Currently, there is only parking space for 7000 vehicles at Nilakkal.
Furthermore, the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB)’s project to create an additional parking facility for 500 vehicles has not yet been implemented.
