Thrissur: A report said that rioting took place at the high security Viyyur jail in Thrissur district. The rampage resulted in the injury of three jailers and two convicts. The police have charged ten inmates over the incident. One of the rioters is Kodi Suni, who was convicted in the TP Chandrasekharan murder.
According to the report, the riot began after the ten-member gang quarreled with two murder culprits over the distribution of food. Later, Kodi Suni and other gang members attacked the two culprits with iron rods. Three jailers were also injured in the attack after they tried to stop them. One of the jailer is severely injured. They are being treated at the Thrissur Government Medical College.
It is said that the jail authorities called up Viyyur police station for support after the rioting and attack escalated.
Kodi Suni is a convict in TP Chandrasekharan murder, which had shaken the political landscape in Kerala. The murder brought out the murderous and violent strategies used by CPI(M) to silence detractors and opponents. TP Chandrasekharan was at odds with the CPI(M) and had formed his own party, Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP), to challenge the CPI(M).
However, in 2012 TP Chandrasekharan was killed brutally by Kodi Suni and his gang at Onchiyam. TP Chandrasekharan sustained 51 cuts throughout his body and his face was disfigured beyond recognition. The brutality of the murder had shocked Kerala.
