Thiruvananthapuram: It has been decided to take strict action against individuals and vehicle owners who do not pay fines for traffic violations. Commencing on December 1, vehicles that have unpaid fines will no longer undergo smoke checks. This decision emerged from a review meeting chaired by Minister Antony Raju.
During the meeting, it was noted that the installation of cameras has contributed to a reduction in vehicle accidents across the state. To further encourage compliance with traffic regulations, additional charges will be imposed on violators, and there are plans to make the payment of fines a prerequisite for insurance renewal. Discussions on this matter will take place with company heads in Thiruvananthapuram on the 15th of this month.
Fines were recently imposed on 13 vehicles owned by Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). Additionally, the meeting highlighted the convenience of submitting complaints related to legal violations online through the eChallan website. Transport Commissioner S Srijith and Kerala State Electronics Development Corporation (Keltron) CMD N Narayana Murthy were present in the meeting.
