Thiruvananthapuram: A yellow alert has been declared in four districts in Kerala. The India Meteorological Department has issued this alert in response to a cyclone over Lakshadweep, which is expected to strengthen as a low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea, intensifying the rainfall in Kerala.
Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad, and Malappuram have been placed on yellow alert today. The alert is expected to continue in Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts on Friday as well.
With the likelihood of heavy rains, the authorities are urging extreme caution, particularly in hilly areas within these districts. The heavy rains are expected to persist until November 9.
In addition to the yellow alert, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Centre has issued a warning about high waves and potential storm surges along the Kerala coast, which will remain until 11:30 tonight. Fishermen and coastal residents are advised to stay vigilant during this period.
