ERNAKULAM: A case of honour killing has been reported in Kerala. According to police reports, the girl, a Class IX student, died on Tuesday after allegedly being force-fed herbicide by her father, Abeez.
The 14-year-old girl had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kochi. During her hospitalisation, she gave a statement to the police, which led to the arrest of her father. The incident occurred on October 29.
Reportedly, the father named Abeez resorted to extreme measures, brutally beating his daughter and forcibly administering poison because she continued her relationship with a classmate from a different religious background. Despite her father’s warning a month ago, the girl continued in the relationship.
Her father, Abeez, had previously taken her phone away, but the girl managed to stay in contact with her classmate using another phone. On October 29 (Sunday), her father assaulted her with a iron rod, resulting in broken arms and legs, and forcefully poured poison (herbicide) into her mouth.
During the incident, neither her mother nor her father was present at home. However, upon returning, her mother rushed her to a nearby hospital.
The police have filed charges against Abeez under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 342 , 324 , 326A , and 307, as well as sections of the Juvenile Justice Act. It has been informed that the charges will be revised to include murder charges against Abeez.
