Kannur: The district health department is set to conduct tests after students at Govt Girls Higher Secondary School in Thalassery reported health issues yesterday. The testing will determine whether the Zika virus, which recently surfaced in the Thalassery district court complex, is also linked to the students’ health issues. Additionally, mosquito eradication and sanitation measures will be implemented on the school premises.
Students in the Plus One and Plus Two classes at Thalassery Govt Girls Higher Secondary School experienced health problems, with 20 children reporting symptoms such as body itching and abdominal pain. Two students, suffering from severe stomach pain, were admitted to Pariyaram Medical College.
Meanwhile, doctors clarified that the five female students transferred from Thalassery Govt Hospital to Pariyaram Medical College did not exhibit any other health issues. They emphasized that the transfer was a precautionary measure. The doctors further stated that if these students display Zika virus symptoms, blood and saliva samples will be sent for testing.
