Alappuzha: A 14-year-old boy, Barkat Ali, son of Yusuf, a migrant worker, was reportedly brutally assaulted at Mannanchery police station in Alappuzha district. Barkat Ali, a 10th-class student, was reportedly beaten by the police yesterday.
The parents stated that the boy was held in custody for six hours, and during that time, they were not allowed to see him. The parents said that it was planned, and the boy was beaten up at the police station where there was no CCTV camera.
Following the assault, the injured child sought medical treatment at Chettikad government hospital. The attending doctor confirmed visible signs of severe beating on the boy’s body.
In response to the incident, the police station stated that they were unaware the boy was a minor. Dr. Vasanatha Kumari, Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), has stated that an investigation will be launched into the complaint.
Many people are criticizing the Kerala Police for their approach to the police brutality against the child.
