Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rains in Kerala on Wednesday. This forecast is attributed to the anticipated formation of low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. As a precautionary measure, a yellow alert has been declared in several districts for the next two days.
On Wednesday, the yellow alert was announced for four districts, including Pathanamthitta and Idukki. Furthermore, Kottayam and Ernakulam districts are placed on yellow alert on Thursday, with heavy rainfall expected in isolated areas.
The India Meteorological Department predicts the low pressure forming in the South East Bay of Bengal on Tuesday to intensify by Thursday, indicating the likelihood of widespread rainfall in Kerala until Saturday.
In addition to heavy rainfall, there’s a possibility of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds on Tuesday and Wednesday, prompting authorities to exercise caution. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Centre has issued warnings for people to stay away from danger zones, especially in coastal areas, and avoid beach trips and sea-related recreational activities due to the anticipated high waves tonight. Fishermen and residents along the coast are urged to exercise vigilance during this period.
