Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has declared a yellow alert in three districts of Kerala today. The districts in Yellow alert includes Ernakulam, Idukki, and Malappuram, as heavy rainfall is expected in these regions. Additionally, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, and Idukki districts will remain on yellow alert on Friday.
The meteorological department forecasts the formation of a new low-pressure system in the south-east Bay of Bengal today, with the cyclonic circulation expected to intensify over the Bay of Bengal. However, it is anticipated to take approximately two days for the system to evolve into an extreme low-pressure condition, with the extreme low pressure likely to form in the Bay of Bengal on the 16th. Subsequently, heavy rains are expected to hit the state.
Heavy rains ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in a 24-hour period pose a potential risk, particularly in hilly areas. Residents are advised to exercise caution and stay vigilant in these regions due to the yellow alert.
The India Meteorological Department has assured that there will be no disruption to fishing activities along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts.
