Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rainfall in the state over the next four days, attributing it to the influence of a low-pressure system. The low pressure, currently situated over the southeast Bay of Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, is expected to intensify into a severe depression over the central West Bay of Bengal by tomorrow.
In addition to the low-pressure system, another cyclonic system is prevailing over the southwest Bay of Bengal, further contributing to the anticipated rainfall. The India Meteorological Department has cautioned that this weather condition may result in rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
For the immediate future, the Ernakulam district is expected to experience rain at isolated places within the next three hours, with the possibility of strong winds and thundershowers, as stated by the India Meteorological Department.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Centre has also issued a warning about the potential for high waves and storm surges along the Kerala coast today. Fishermen and coastal residents are advised to exercise caution and take the necessary safety measures.
