Thiruvananthapuram: A special team will investigate the incident of Youth Congress making fake identity cards of the Election Commission of India. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the election ID card used for the Youth Congress organizational election was forged.
A special investigation team has been formed to investigate the case. Thiruvananthapuram City DCP Nidhin Raj IPS will lead the investigation while the Museum SHO is in charge of the investigation. The report must be submitted to the Election Commission within five days. The DCP responded that it is the responsibility of the investigation team to investigate the case and submit the report within the stipulated time.
The main focus of the investigation is to determine the intended function of the mobile app. The purpose behind creating the app will be thoroughly examined, along with an inquiry into its users. Ongoing investigations are checking into these aspects. Section 66C of the IT Act has been invoked, and in addition, sections 465, 468, and 471 of the IPC have also been applied.
66C of the IT Act is ‘Punishment for identity theft’. It states that whoever, fraudulently or dishonestly make use of the electronic signature, password or any other unique identification feature of any other person, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to three years and shall also be liable to fine with may extend to rupees one lakh.
Forgery is sine-qua-non (an essential condition) of offences under sections 467, 468 and 471 IPC. Preparation of false document or false electronic record or part thereof is condition precedent for offence of forgery.
