Varkala Police Station Civil Police Officer (CPO) Sujith got injured in the clash and was admitted to Varkala Taluk Hospital. Due to the possibility of tension intensifying in front of SN College, police teams are being deployed from various police stations.
A tense situation was formed in Varkala SN College regarding union elections. SFI and KSU activists had a verbal altercation which resulted in push and shove. CPO Sujith of Varkala station got injured while the police reached the spot from Varkala and Ayiroor stations and took control of the situation. Police forces from Kadakkavoor, Kallambalam, Pallickal and Anchuthengu stations have been deployed at the spot.
The nomination of Athira, a third year student of Chemistry Department, who was nominated as SFI candidate for the union elections in the college, was refused, citing attendance shortage. The SFI alleged that the student had 74.2 per cent attendance but the teacher refused to accept her nomination despite producing the medical certificate. SFI also alleged that the teacher is the wife of a Congress political leader and there is clear politics behind it. But KSU’s allegation is that SFI are creating problems out of fear of defeat and the principal is standing by them.
The nomination process was put on hold last day as there was a possibility of conflict. Today again, both groups were demonstrating and they were fighting and pushing in the presence of the police.
