Wayanad: The communist terrorists arrested during an encounter in Periya have been remanded to Kannur Central Jail after a ten-day custodial period. The communist terrorists, Chandru and Unnimaya, were captured during an encounter at Periya Chapparat.
They were arrested during an encounter involving Thunderbolt forces and a group of five terrorists at Periya Chapparat. Two other members managed to escape during the encounter. The police have issued a lookout notice for them.
In response to heightened clashes with communist terrorists in Kerala, the Tamil Nadu government has tightened security measures. Inspections have been tightened at 14 border check posts, and 160 policemen have been deployed to fortify inspections.
