Kochi: Thrissur CPI(M) district secretary, MM Varghese, has once again appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Karuvannur Cooperative Bank scam. This second round of interrogation follows a confidential statement provided to the magistrate by two governing body members, revealing the existence of a CPI(M) committee involved in approving benami loans.
During the previous nine-hour session with the ED, Varghese faced inquiries related to his actions against the previous administration committee members while serving as the district secretary. The ED sought information on the role of the CPI(M)’s parliamentary committee in authorizing benami loans from the bank.
In response to the initial complaint regarding the Karuvannur Bank scam, the CPI(M) initiated an inquiry committee. The ED has summoned Varghese again for questioning, seeking details on the findings and actions taken based on the committee’s investigation.
