Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of potential heavy rain in the state today. This forecast is attributed to a cyclonic system forming over the southwest Bay of Bengal and the adjacent southern region of Sri Lanka. Due to its influence, Kerala is expected to experience rain accompanied by thunder and lightning over the next five days.
A low-pressure system that originated in the Southeast Bay of Bengal has strengthened into a severe depression in the Southwest Bay of Bengal, adjacent to the Southeast Bay of Bengal. Furthermore, an extreme low-pressure system moving in the west-northwest direction is anticipated to gain strength, with the potential to intensify into a cyclonic storm over the southwest Bay of Bengal by December 3.
Thiruvananthapuram and Idukki districts are likely to witness light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in the next three hours. The IMD also cautions that strong winds, reaching speeds of up to 40 km per hour, could accompany these weather conditions. Presently, no alert has been issued for any district in the state.
