Pathanamthitta: When the whole country is awaiting the opening of Ram Temple at Ayodhya with happiness, the people of Kozhencherry in Pathanamthitta district is mourning the demise of a nationalist and true Sanathani, Kuruvilla Abraham. He was 80 years old.
During the Ram Janmabhoomi struggle, Kuruvilla Abraham, or Babu chetan as he is fondly called, had done so much and worked tirelessly for the dream of a grand temple at Ayodhya.
Kuruvilla Abraham joined the Sangh in early 1980s as a Swayamsevak of Kozhencherry Town Shaka in Pathanamthitta district, when he was 43 years old. Even though he belonged to a minority community, it never stopped him from taking the leap into nationalism and taking a stand for Dharma. Whilst being the member of the Mar Thoma Church, he joined the Sangh and did many activities to help the cause of cultural nationalism.
Kuruvilla had completed the Initial Training Camp (ITC) or the Prathamik Siksha Varg and also the Officers Training Camp (OTC) or the Sangh Siksha Varg of the RSS. He also dutifully carried out the various responsibilities given to him by the Sangh.
During 1982-83, he took part in the Nillakkal movement and had to face torture at the hands of the police.
In 1992, Kuruvilla Abraham was tasked to take the team of Karsevaks of Kozhencherry to Ayodhya and take part in the Karseva. He was arrested by the police for his activities.
The residents of Kozhencherry remember Kuruvilla Abraham taking his family to the church, with the tilak proudly smeared on his forehead. He was also a great devotee of Lord Ayyappa and used to go to Sabarimala every year by taking penance and following all the rituals. His faith and respect transcended beyond religious barriers and earned the respect and love of everyone.
Kuruvilla Abraham will be laid to rest today at 11 am. His life and activities is an example of the all embracing ethos of the Sangh that had guided him till his last breath.
