Thiruvananthapuram: The capital city witnessed a celestial spectacle as the ‘Museum of the Moon’ was unveiled at Kanakakunnu as part of the Global Science Festival Kerala. Thousands flocked toKanakakunnu to witness the lunar display, aimed at offering a clearer understanding of the moon’s shape.
The moon, measuring seven-meter-wide and decorated with actual images taken by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter camera, was created by the Astronomical Science Center of America. The display revealed the moon’s surface in fine detail, giving viewers the chance to appreciate the beauty of its landscape.
British artist Luke Jerram’s giant lunar model, the result of nearly two decades of work, took centre stage at Kanakakunnu. Each centimeter on the model represented an impressive five kilometres of the actual lunar surface, providing a truly immersive experience for spectators. While humans can only observe one side of the moon from Earth, the ‘Museum of the Moon’ aims to unveil the mysterious unseen side.
Luke Jerram’s creation, the second exhibition of its kind in Bharat and the first in Kerala, featured images that captivated the audience with their allure. The exhibition, open for only one night, commenced last night and continued until the early hours, concluding at 4 a.m.
