THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala state Secretary of ABVP, NCT Sreehari, criticized the SFI for filling University Senate members with SFI activists. He mentioned that SFI leaders should understand that University senates are not meant for filling SFI members.
Sreehari was responding to allegations from SFI leaders that the Governor nominated some ABVP members for the University senate. He highlighted that Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan nominated only academically outstanding candidates to the Senate. According to Sreehari, the Governor did not follow the usual practice of earlier times in appointing senate members, where candidates were recommended by the AKG Centre without considering merits, often favoring SFI leaders.
But this time, the Governor nominated members solely based on merit. Sreehari stated that the allegations made by SFI leaders against this nomination are irrelevant. He emphasized that students nominated by the Governor are talented in their respective fields.
He added, for instance, Sudhi Sadhan of Pandalam NSS College secured the ‘Mr. Alappuzha’ title in a bodybuilding competition. Other students nominated by the Governor also excel in their respective fields.Despite this, SFI objects to an ABVP member being nominated, asserting that only SFI members should hold Senate positions.
Sreehari said SFI’s demand is unacceptable and erroneous. He sarcastically suggested that their insistence on having only SFI members in every senate position might stem from ignorance.
Sreehari also pointed out that the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Kannur VC re-appointment countered CPI(M)’s insistence on unilateral actions.
