THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the suicide of Dr. Shahana, a PG student in the surgery department of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, the police arrested her boyfriend, Dr. EA Ruwise, today morning in connection with the case.
Dr. EA Ruwise was arrested based on the complaint filed by Dr. Shahana’s relatives, alleging that she was depressed and had committed suicide because Dr. EA Ruwise refused to marry her, citing her family’s inability to fulfill his dowry demands.
Following the arrest, the police reported that the accused’s mobile phone would be handed over to the cyber department for detailed verification. The cyber department will conduct a thorough examination to collect information about the WhatsApp messages between the two.
Upon Dr. Ruwise’s custody today, the police also seized his phone. However, upon checking his mobile phone, all the WhatsApp messages were found to be deleted.
In this situation, it has been decided to hand over the phone for cyber examination to recover detailed information, including WhatsApp chats.
Ruwise, a native of Kollam Shaktikulangara, was taken into custody by the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College police from Karunagappally. He was then brought to Thiruvananthapuram for interrogation.
The police have registered a case against Ruwise under the ‘Abetment of Suicide’ and under the charges of the ‘Prevention of Dowry Act’.
According to reports, Dr. Ruwise had initially promised to marry Dr. Shahana but later demanded 150 gold sovereigns, 15 acres of land, and a BMW car as dowry. As Dr. Shahana’s family was unable to fulfill the demands, he refused to marry her. This rejection led her into depression and committed suicide. A suicide note, found in her apartment, read, ‘Everyone wants money only.’ Subsequently, the police registered the case and initiated an investigation.
In a latest update, the Kerala Medical Post Graduates Association (KMPGA) announced the removal of Ruwais from all organizational roles. He previously served as the president within KMPGA.
