THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the suicide of Dr. Shahana, Dr. EA Ruwise, who was arrested today morning, has been suspended from Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.
The Principal of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College has informed the suspension of Dr. EA Ruwise, a postgraduate medical student at the college, due to his alleged involvement in Dr. Shahana’s suicide.
Both Dr. Shahana and Dr. EA Ruwise were pursuing a postgraduate course in the surgery department at Government Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram. According to reports, Dr. Ruwise had initially promised to marry Dr. Shahana but later demanded 150 gold sovereigns, 15 acres of land, and a BMW car as dowry. As Dr. Shahana’s family was unable to fulfill the demands, he refused to marry her. This rejection led her into depression and committed suicide.
Health Minister Veena George has directed both the Director of the Medical Education Department and the Director of the Women and Child Development Department to thoroughly investigate the incident. She has urged for strict actions against Dr. EA Ruwise regarding his alleged involvement in Dr. Shahana’s suicide.
Following the Minister’s directives, the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Principal suspended EA Ruwise in connection with the case. Today morning police arrested Ruwise on charges of ‘Abetment of Suicide’ and violation of the ‘Prevention of Dowry Act’.
